5 Tips To Start Your Digital DREAM

Last week, I had the opportunity to sit on a panel with fellow NJ Content Creators and share some insight I certainly needed when I started blogging and podcasting. I was joined by a diverse panel of podcasters who have been creating content anywhere from 1 year to 11 years.

I learned a great deal not only from the panelists but talented attendees alike. They even featured our podcast, "A Day in the Life of the Alpha Woman" on their Definitive List of NJ Podcasts! It felt like one of those moments where God winks at you and the heavens say, "keep going, sis".

This all seemed so far away 2 summers ago when I started building this site. My life felt like a nightmare at the time as I tried to rise up from one of the most tragic experiences of my life. In the midst of all of the chaos, I knew time was of the essence. I knew I had to start. Here we are 30+ blog posts and 3 podcast seasons later. I am so glad I started when I did.

Here are some tips for those who may want to get started blogging and/or podcasting:

1. 15 minutes a day is enough

When I started building my site, I only had 15 minutes to give per day. In fact, that is all I have now (if that). I gave myself 15 minutes each day to develop this very site using the Wix platform. You don’t need to be a tech giant to get started. A few tutorials and hands-on support can get you on your way.

2. Keep cost as low as you can

Don’t go spending $1500.00 of your own money to build a brand. Build your brand using free or close-to-free resources such as Canva for visuals. You can even purchase pre-made branded items for an excellent price via Creative Market and Etsy. Again, no genius required in today's global market.

3. Give up perfectionism

The most freeing part of the journey for me has been giving up the need for perfection. I write my articles, proofread as best as I can, and move forward. Sometimes I miss things, but I honestly don’t fret because again, I am building.

4. Be consistent

If consistency is once a month, stick to it. If it’s once a week with breaks, do that. No matter what you do. Keep feeding the passion.

5. You get more bees with community

That's my spin on “You get more bees with honey”. The sooner you get over the need to be a one-woman show, the quicker you will grow. You do not need to be the be all end all. Find people who share your values and encourage them to contribute to your blog and/or podcast. You need to collaborate.

Those are my quick starter tips! The full panel can be watched on the NJ Content Creators website. You can visit my consulting site at www.issatao.com if you are interested in getting more hands-on support. I'd love the opportunity to help you level up.

"I have seen something else under the sun: The race is not to the swift or the battle to the strong, nor does food come to the wise or wealth to the brilliant or favor to the learned; but time and chance happen to them all." - Ecclesiastes 9:11
