Have you ever looked around and wondered, “Where did my joy go?”
Between the responsibilities, the disappointments, the deadlines, and the detours, joy can feel like a distant memory instead of a daily promise. But here’s the truth, sis: God never designed joy to be a seasonal feeling. He designed it to be our spiritual posture.
Joy isn’t the same as happiness. Happiness is based on happenings. Joy is rooted in Jesus. And when we choose to pursue joy God’s way, we tap into a supernatural strength that can’t be shaken by circumstance.
What Does It Look Like to Pursue Joy God's Way?
Pursuing joy through the world will leave us empty and exhausted—always striving, always chasing, always comparing. But when we pursue joy through the Spirit, we find peace in the present and power for the path ahead.
God’s Word is filled with promises for those who walk in joy. And guess what? These promises are for you.
Here are a few to hold onto:
Speak these over yourself in the mirror, in prayer, in the car—whenever you need a reminder that joy is your inheritance.
The joy of the Lord is my strength.“The joy of the Lord is your strength.” – Nehemiah 8:10
I have fullness of joy in God’s presence.“In your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” – Psalm 16:11
I rejoice always because God is with me.“Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice.” – Philippians 4:4
My heart is glad, and I rest in hope.“Therefore my heart is glad, and my whole being rejoices; my flesh also dwells secure.” – Psalm 16:9
God has given me a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.“...the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit...” – Isaiah 61:3
I count it all joy, even in trials, because I know God is growing me.“Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds...” – James 1:2
I am anointed with the oil of gladness.“...God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of gladness beyond your companions.” – Hebrews 1:9
My joy is complete in Jesus.“These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.” – John 15:11
Joy is my portion and my inheritance from the Lord.“You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy.” – Psalm 16:11
I am filled with joy and peace as I trust in God.“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing...” – Romans 15:13
When you chase joy the world’s way, you’ll burn out. But when you walk in joy the Spirit’s way, God fills you. He strengthens you. He sustains you.
Joy is not about denying your pain—it’s about declaring that your pain doesn’t get the final say.
Sis, God wants you to live a joy-filled life. A life that laughs. A life that breathes. A life that sings even when the tears fall. Joy is a fruit of the Spirit, and it’s not optional—it’s promised. You don’t have to hustle for it. Just abide in Him, and it’ll flow.
Where have you been searching for joy outside of God? And what’s one way you can invite His joy back into your daily rhythm?
Let this be your reminder: You are worthy of joy. Not because life is perfect, but because the Perfect One lives in you. Pursue His presence, and you’ll find the kind of joy that holds you together when everything else falls apart.
